Description: Restoration
In December 2025, we were commissioned by Mälar Fasad to install flashings and metal cappings as part of the restoration of Bångska Palacein Stockholm. We work closely with conservation specialists and skilled craftspeople to return the building to its original appearance from 1884.
In this blog post, we share the story behind the restoration of Bångska Palace, its history, and our role in installing architectural sheet metal details. You'll also get an insight into what it's like to carry out sheet metal work on a historic restoration project.
In 1883, the architect Adolf Emil Melander produced the first drawings for what would become the Bångska Palace. The project was commissioned by industrialist Johan August Bång, and the building was completed in 1884. It was primarily used as a residential apartment building.
The Bångska Palace was built during the Late Historicist period. This architectural movement emerged as a reaction to the more restrained aesthetic of Classicism. Rather than favouring simple, understated forms, architects looked back to earlier styles, drawing inspiration from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Gothic periods. The result was architecture that was often more richly ornamented and deeply rooted in historical references.
Melander was one of Sweden's leading architects of the period and designed several buildings that clearly reflect the architectural language of Late Historicism. Among his best-known works are the Skating Pavilion (Skridskopaviljongen), Bångska Palace, Pelarhuset, and St. John's Church (Johanneskyrkan)in Helsinki.
Together, these buildings demonstrate Melander's significant contribution to the development of Late Historicist architecture in Sweden.
The Bångska Palace attracted attention for its highly detailed façade and its distinctive position facing two different streets. The original façade featured elaborate cornices, monumental columns, and sculptures created by Carl Johan Dyfverman.
In 1950, the building underwent a modernisation that resulted in the loss of many of its original architectural features.
The façade's intricate detailing creates countless small edges,

corners, and complex junctions, requiring creative thinking and bespoke solutions throughout the project. "Every detail is a new challenge. There isn't a standard solution." says Dennis, one of our experienced sheet metal workers. He also highlights the exceptional craftsmanship of everyone involved in the project and values the close collaboration and strong communication between all trades on site.
Today, the goal is to restore the façade so that it faithfully reflects its appearance in the 1880s. Our role is to install sheet metal flashings and protective cappings on mouldings and other architectural details to shield the building from the elements.
For this project, we use traditional sheet metal detailing specifically suited to historic buildings, preserving and enhancing the character and appearance of the façade. The metalwork is designed to be as discreet as possible—barely visible—serving only to protect the building, just as it did in the original design.
Being part of the restoration of Bångska Palace is a project we are proud of. Through meticulous sheet metal work, close cooperation with other specialist trades, and great respect for the building's architectorial history, we are helping preserve an important piece of cultural heritage for future generations.
We look forward to following the continued progress of this restoration project.

Material: Ca 3000m sheet metal
One of CRV Plåt’s largest projects to date. A newly built care home in Järfälla where we are fully responsible for all exterior sheet metal work. This includes window sills, downpipes, roofing, roof safety systems, and more.

Material: Matt dark gray sheet metal.
In this project, we clad approximately 270 metres of the building’s base in dark grey sheet metal — this protects the building from moisture and dirt.
The work included removing existing sheet metal details from the windows and base, as well as installing new base cladding, flashing, and window sills. For this project, we used a 3D modelling program to help develop the design.

Method: Seam roofing
This project focused on seam roofing — a method that creates a watertight, durable, and seamless surface without any visible screws.
The project included work to resolve leakage and corrosion caused by poor water drainage on the building’s dormers. The existing sheet metal was removed and replaced with new material. The dormer roofs had too little slope, which led to water leakage. To solve this, we built a new pitch structure on top of the dormers and installed new standing seam roofing and support boards.
Support boards are thin wooden or metal boards installed as a base for standing seam roofing. They create a smooth and stable foundation while also improving weather tightness and ensuring long-term durability.
